Manchester United interest in Jean-Philippe Mateta

Overview

Manchester United has expressed increasing interest in Crystal Palace forward Jean-Philippe Mateta to strengthen their attacking lineup. Initially reported as a potential target to bolster options for head coach Michael Carrick, Mateta is viewed as an experienced Premier League option. Juventus has also been noted as monitoring the striker.

By early October, Mateta emerged as a priority target for the January transfer window, specifically to address injury concerns regarding Benjamin Sesko. Mateta’s profile has been bolstered by a season in which he recorded 16 goals and three assists, contributing to Crystal Palace winning the Conference League and earning a call-up to the French national team.

Negotiations for the 29-year-old may depend on Manchester United’s ability to offload Joshua Zirkzee to fund the transfer. Crystal Palace faces a decision regarding Mateta’s future, as his contract runs until June 2027.
