Manhunt for fugitive Senator Ronald dela Rosa

Philippine authorities are conducting a manhunt for Senator Ronald ‘Bato’ dela Rosa, who has been missing from public view since May 14. Dela Rosa is wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for alleged crimes against humanity linked to the Duterte administration’s anti-drug campaign.

National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Melvin Matibag reported that investigators have reliable leads regarding the senator’s location. Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla stated that the government is engaged in negotiations with purported ‘powerful protectors’ of the senator. Remulla noted that while the government aims for a peaceful surrender to avoid casualties, it is prepared to use economic and military levers to compel him to come forward.

Parallel to the search, the Philippine National Police (PNP) is working to recover firearms registered to the senator following the revocation of his licenses. While authorities have tracked several weapons, a number of firearms remain unaccounted for. Dela Rosa’s legal counsel has denied the existence of any powerful protectors, stating the senator relies solely on faith.
