The Manipur state government has undertaken several administrative and social welfare initiatives. Initially, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh focused on departmental staffing by distributing appointment offers to 93 candidates under the ‘die-in-harness scheme’ for the Land Resources Department. Following this, the government shifted focus toward addressing the needs of internally displaced persons (IDPs) resulting from ongoing instability. The Chief Minister announced efforts to facilitate the return of IDPs to their homes through discussions with civil society organisations to ‘bridge the trust deficit’. As part of these relief efforts, the government distributed Rs 2.19 crore in financial benefits to eligible labour card holders, including special schemes for the education of children in relief camps. Approximately 2,531 IDPs are currently receiving assistance via Direct Benefit Transfer. During the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ in Imphal, Chief Minister Singh detailed the economic impact of the ethnic conflict that began in May 2023, noting a loss of over Rs 1,200 crore in state GST revenue. He emphasized that peace and mutual trust are essential for development and urged citizens to support the ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ vision by avoiding strikes and blockades that harm local livelihoods and the economy.
