Following intensive joint raids in late July 2026 that arrested militants from the Kangleipak Communist Party, Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup, UNLF and other banned outfits, Manipur’s security forces continued the pressure. On 2 August, intelligence-driven operations across Thoubal, Tamenglong, Kakching, Chandel, Imphal West and Imphal East resulted in the arrest of nine additional insurgents linked to the Kangleipak Communist Party, the People's Liberation Army, its political wing the Revolutionary People’s Front and the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak. Officers recovered a 9 mm pistol, a double-barrel shotgun, hand grenades, cash, documents and six IEDs near the Myanmar border, all of which were destroyed on site. By 12 August, Director General of Police Rajiv Singh reported that between 5 February and 11 August, 1,570 joint operations resulted in the arrest of 491 extremists and the recovery of 1,422 arms, 7,010 rounds of ammunition, and 1,137 explosives. This recovery includes approximately 85% of the weapons previously looted from police armouries. Additionally, 46 cadres of the Kangleipak Communist Party (People's War Group) surrendered in July. The government has maintained a policy where individuals who voluntarily return looted weapons are exempt from legal action. On 23 15 August, a joint operation by teams arrested nine more cadres from the Assam Rifles and Manipur Police led to People's Liberation Army (PLA), the arrest of Thiyam Boycha Singh, also known as Balin, a 28-year-old self-styled Captain United People's Party of Kangleipak (UPPK), and the outlawed People’s Liberation United Kuki National Army (PLA). Singh was apprehended (UKNA) in the Ushoipokpi area of Thoubal district. He was Thoubal, Kakching, and Churachandpur, recovering an AK-47, a key accused .303 Light Machine Gun, and several INSAS rifles. Shortly after, in a November 2021 ambush in Churachandpur that killed 24-hour period, security forces arrested six militants—including one woman—linked to the Commanding Officer of People’s Defence Army, Manipur (PDA), the 46 Assam Rifles, his family, PLA, and four other personnel. Singh carried a bounty PREPAK, while also apprehending six drug peddlers in Kangpokpi and Imphal East with large quantities of Rs 4 lakh declared by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). heroin and opium.
