Slovak singer Marika Gombitová is celebrating her 70th birthday and 50 years on stage by announcing a series of jubilee concerts. The tour includes scheduled performances in Prešov, Prague, and Bratislava. In preparation for these shows, Gombitová is undergoing daily vocal and physical training to strengthen her diaphragm. Amidst the tour preparations, she declined a proposal to perform the duet ‘Neznámý pár’ with Petr Hůlka, stating she intends to honor the song as a commitment originally intended for herself and the late Karel Gott. On September 26, 2026, Gombitová kicked off her Czech-Slovak tour with a sold-out concert at the Handball Aréna in Prešov. The performance featured career hits such as ‘Prstienky z trávy’ and ‘Vyznanie’, along with medleys from the musical ‘Neberte nám princeznú’. The production incorporated archival footage projected behind the singer. Guest appearances included Lukáš Adamec, Ondrej Kandráč, Daniel Hůlka, and Kamila Nývltová. Following the opening show, Gombitová reflected on her life and career, specifically discussing the profound impact of a 1980 car accident that left her using a wheelchair. She expressed gratitude for her resilience and her ability to continue her musical mission despite these challenges, noting that faith has been a primary driver in her ability to move forward. As part of her ‘Marika 70’ tour, the singer is scheduled to conclude her performances in Bratislava on November 7. Gombitová remains a highly influential figure in Slovak and Czech music, having sold over one million records throughout her career. Following the Prešov opening, she performed in Prague, where she expressed her continued connection to the Czech and Slovak musical landscape.
