The maritime industry is advancing zero-emission and eco-friendly shipping technologies through new vessel orders and technological showcases. GMI has ordered two hydrogen-powered coastal bulk carriers from Chowgule Shipyards in India to operate in Norwegian waters. HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) secured DNV approval for a 271,000 CBM LNG carrier design and Korean Register approval for a 50,000 cubic meter LPG tanker. Additionally, HD KSOE, HD HHI, and Lloyd’s Register signed an AiP to develop a 185,000 cbm LNG carrier featuring hybrid electric propulsion. Other developments include Hanwha Power receiving ABS approval for an ammonia multi-cargo capable LNG bunkering vessel, and Babcock LGE obtaining Lloyd’s Register approval for ecoAPEX cargo handling technology designed to reduce reliquefaction energy use by approximately 25%. technology.
