Following the 29 July 2026 concert at the Singapore’s Star Theatre where Robert Del Naja and Grant Marshall displayed a Palestinian flag and the audience chanted “Free Palestine”, Singapore police launched opened investigations under the Foreign National Emblems (Control of Display) Act and the Public Order Act. The musicians were detained, questioned separately, had their hotel rooms searched and passports temporarily seized. The band’s Their Instagram described the episode as “surreal”, expressing surprise, disappointment and solidarity with the Palestinian people while urging Singapore to uphold human‑rights standards. On 31 July authorities announced a permanent entry ban for the two members, stating that any future concert applications would be rejected. Subsequent notices Notices on 2 August and 3 August reiterated that the ban is grounded in the same statutes and warned that unauthorised foreign‑flag displays could threaten racial and religious harmony. Further statements on 2 August and 4 August confirmed that the ban specifically prevents Del Naja and Marshall from re‑entering Singapore. The duo reiterated their disappointment and called on Singapore to adopt the UN International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which the country has not ratified. Subsequent reports clarified that the musicians were placed on a blacklist under the same laws, and Singapore officials said the flag display could harm racial and religious harmony and warned foreigners against importing foreign politics. The band added that they were “surprised that merely holding up a flag of a sovereign state recognised by 157 countries would violate any law.”
