Uruguayan defender Matías Viña is set to join the Brazilian club Cruzeiro on loan from River Plate until December. The move follows an agreement between Cruzeiro and Viña’s parent club, Flamengo. Viña, who had been sidelined from River Plate’s plans for the second half of the year and had missed recent training sessions during negotiations, will see River Plate cease paying his salary for the remaining four months of his loan period. Viña joined River Plate earlier in 2026 at the request of manager Marcelo Gallardo and appeared in 14 matches. To facilitate the move to Cruzeiro, Viña has rescinded his current loan agreement with River Plate. His departure follows a period where he was no longer considered a priority for the team's technical staff.
