Mate Parlov monument unveiling in Imotski

Overview

A 3.5-meter bronze monument honoring legendary Croatian boxer Mate Parlov was unveiled in Imotski. Created by sculptor Anto Jurkić, the statue depicts Parlov in a signature winning pose and is situated near the entrance to the Gospin Dolac City Stadium, close to where he spent part of his childhood.

Parlov is recognized as a major sporting figure of the 20th century, having achieved success as both an amateur and professional. His amateur accolades include Olympic gold in Munich (1972), as well as European and World championships. In the professional ranks, he became a European and World champion.

The unveiling ceremony was attended by government officials, local leaders, and representatives from the Croatian Boxing Federation. During the event, family and friends shared reflections on Parlov’s character, describing him as a “soft-hearted” individual with a humanitarian spirit.
