Mattel has released a Barbie Signature Collector doll to honor the musical legacy of the late Whitney Houston. Developed in collaboration with Pat Houston, executor of the singer’s estate, and Primary Wave Music, the doll was unveiled during the fifth annual Legacy of Love gala in Atlanta. The collector’s item is inspired by Houston’s appearance in the 1987 music video for ‘I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me).’ It features a purple bodycon dress, colorful earrings, her signature 1980s curly hair and fringe, and includes a miniature microphone and stand. The doll, which retails for approximately $60, features an articulated body and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. It is available through retailers such as Amazon, Walmart, Target, and Mattel Creations. As part of the release, the Barbie Dream Gap Project will make a donation to the Whitney E. Houston Legacy Foundation to support educational programs and scholarships for youth. These commemorative efforts coincide with the release of a new album titled ‘WH1TNEY,’ which compiles her 11 Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles, celebrating over four decades of her musical career and pop culture influence.
