On August 19, 2026, a 24-year-old 23-year-old man was shot and killed in front of his apartment building in the Champ-le-Boeuf neighborhood of Maxéville, near Nancy. The Mayor of Maxéville, Christophe Choserot, described the scene as an “incredibly violent crime scene” involving a masked commando in a sedan who opened fire. The Nancy prosecutor’s office opened an investigation into the incident, classifying it as an assassination and a potential settlement of accounts. By August 22, a suspect had been indicted for murder and placed in pre-trial detention. The suspect reportedly admitted to shooting the victim, who was identified in later reports as a 23-year-old man. and Deputy Prosecutor Amaury Lacôte stated that the shooting is linked to drug trafficking. Reports following the incident noted that subsequent gunfire left bullet impacts on a nearby apartment building.
