During Gamescom 2026, MBC Group announced the formation of MBC Game Studio (MGS). The studio’s debut title, ‘1001 Threads of Mizan’, was unveiled as an action-adventure game inspired by ‘One Thousand and One Nights’ and Arabian folklore. Details regarding the title include cooperative gameplay for up to three players, featuring a drop-in/drop-out system. The gameplay emphasizes high-speed traversal and combat using flying carpets to battle ‘colossal jinn’. The narrative follows three heroes—Yusra, Malik, and Sufyan—who are summoned by the storyweaver Shahrazad to reclaim the lost power of the Mizan and prevent an ancient Jinn king from destroying humanity. The game is being developed by a team with experience from studios including BioWare, Ubisoft Montreal, and Bungie. A pre-alpha demo showcasing a boss fight against Nazjush was presented during the Gamescom Opening Night Live event. As part of the Saudi-owned MBC Group, which is majority-owned by the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), the project represents a significant effort to use video games as a medium for promoting Middle Eastern culture and folklore, similar to how other nations have utilized gaming as a tool for soft power. While a specific price has not been announced, the game is scheduled for a 2027 release on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
