The MBC variety show ‘I Live Alone’ has faced multiple controversies regarding production authenticity and scripted content. Initial scrutiny focused on actor Kim Min’s appearance, where viewers questioned the legitimacy of his use of a generator in a house located near utility poles. While critics used street view images to suggest manipulation, a local business owner in Dongducheon has defended the actor, stating that Kim is a long-time resident and that the conditions shown on screen are authentic. MBC production staff have previously denied all claims of staging, asserting the residence is Kim’s actual living space. Following these allegations, MBC officially addressed the claims, stating, “The house introduced on the broadcast is indeed the space where Kim Min actually resides. There were no parts separately organized or staged by the production team for the situation.” Kim is now scheduled to reappear on the program, with preview footage showing him participating in a local community sports day in Dongducheon and interacting with elderly residents. Subsequent controversy emerged involving entertainer Jun Hyun-moo’s trip to Kazakhstan. Documents submitted by Incheon International Airport to lawmaker Kim Eun-hye’s office revealed that MBC applied for filming permissions on July 22, specifically detailing scenes of Jun issuing a boarding pass at an Air Astana counter on August 6. The application included a specific flight time of 11:10 AM, which matched the aired broadcast. Furthermore, the submitted scenario contained specific dialogue where Jun decides to visit Kazakhstan after stating, “I’ve been to China too many times,” a sequence mirrored in the episode. While MBC staff initially claimed they were merely prepared for a potential trip, the detailed nature of the permits led to accusations of scripted manipulation. Additional scrutiny has been placed on Jun’s ability to rent a vehicle in Almaty without required notarized documents. The production team has since revised its stance on local assistance, acknowledging cooperation from the Almaty Tourism Bureau.
