McDonald's has announced several upcoming Happy Meal collaborations featuring character crossovers. In the United States, a promotion starting August 18, 2026, features eight collectible toys mashing up Sanrio characters with monsters from the Godzilla film franchise. Titled ‘Hello Kitty & Friends x Godzilla’ and using the slogan ‘Cute meets Kaiju’, the collection includes designs such as Hello Kitty as Godzilla, Kuromi as MechaGodzilla, My Melody as Mothra, Keroppi as King Ghidorah, Pompompurin as Gigan, Badtz-Maru as Rodan, Chococat as Space Godzilla, and Cinnamoroll as Destoroyah. While the announcement has generated social media interest, concerns remain regarding potential supply issues and scalping by resellers. A global campaign featuring a crossover between the anime series One Piece and SpongeBob SquarePants is also rolling out. Developed in partnership with Toei Animation and Nickelodeon, the collection features characters reimagined across universes, such as SpongeBob as Monkey D. Luffy and Patrick as Roronoa Zoro. As of September 15, 2026, the campaign has launched in Brazil and Mexico. In Brazil, the promotion includes collectible toys and new menu items, such as a Top Sundae with cherry and orange syrup and a mango-pineapple beverage. In Mexico, the collaboration offers 12 different character combinations, including Squidward as Sanji, with toys available via Happy Meals containing nuggets or hamburgers. In Mexico, Happy Meal prices range from approximately 109 to 119 pesos in-store, or between 135 and 149 pesos on delivery platforms. Due to previous concerns regarding crowd management and food waste, the collaboration will not be released in Japan. On October 13, 2026, McDonald's Türkiye announced its own launch of the SpongeBob SquarePants and One Piece collection. The Turkish release features 12 different toys, including pairings such as Sandy as Nami and Gary as Chopper.
