Allwyn and McLaren Racing organized the “Allwyn x McLaren Racing: Live in Athens” motorsport event, which took place on Saturday, October 3, at the OAKA stadium in Athens, Greece. The event featured a live showrun on a specially prepared track within the OAKA premises, showcasing both the modern McLaren MCL39 and the historic McLaren MP4/6, the vehicle used by Ayrton Senna to win the 1991 World Championship. The MP4/6 features a 3.5-liter Honda V12 engine producing approximately 725 horsepower. Two-time World Champion Mika Häkkinen returned to the cockpit to drive the MP4/6, while IndyCar driver Pato O’Ward piloted the modern model. Former Formula 1 driver Alex Wurz was also in attendance. In addition to the driving displays, the event included a fan zone at the Wall of Nations offering racing simulators, photography, and memorabilia. This event marked the beginning of a new international series between Allwyn and McLaren Racing, intended to bring motorsport to fans outside of traditional Grand Prix settings. Following the event, the OAKA Olympic Complex gained international visibility through social media posts by Mika Häkkinen. His posts featured McLaren racing cars set against the complex’s architectural backdrop, specifically highlighting the renovated Agora and the structures designed by Santiago Calatrava. This exposure linked the prestige of Formula 1 with Athens’ Olympic heritage, showcasing the facility’s capacity to host major international sporting and entertainment activities. Prior to the main event, a promotional tour of the McLaren MCL40 showcar was conducted through various Athens locations, including Syntagma, Piraeus, and Kifisia, during the weekend of September 26-27.
