MediaTek has introduced unveiled its Dimensity 9600 flagship chipset series, designed to enhance smartphone performance and on-device artificial intelligence capabilities. Initial reports highlight the Dimensity 9600 series, including headlined by the Dimensity 9600 Pro and the Dimensity 9600M, utilizing advanced manufacturing processes from TSMC. The architecture focuses on an ‘All-Big Core’ design 9600M. These processors are designed to manage heavy workloads enhance smartphone performance and optimize energy consumption. Key features include hardware-based ray tracing for gaming, support for high-speed memory and storage standards, and advanced connectivity such as Wi-Fi 7. The series also supports high-resolution camera sensors up to 320MP with 8K60 video recording. A significant component of the series is the integration era of a ‘Agentic AI’ through specialized NPU, such as the MediaTek NPU 990, which enables generative and agentic AI workloads to run directly on the device to enhance data privacy. The Dimensity 9600 Pro is manufactured using a TSMC’s 2nm process, which offers improvements in single-core process and multi-core features an ‘All-Big-Core’ CPU performance, as well as a reduction in power consumption. This 2nm variant includes configuration, including Arm C2-Ultra and C2-Pro cores with clock speeds reaching up to 4.55 GHz. To manage complex AI workloads, the Pro model utilizes a dual NPU architecture, including the high-performance MediaTek 1090 NPU 1090. This setup is designed to improve LLM prefill performance and support the on-device AI processing of Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) models with up to 30 billion parameters. Imaging capabilities are bolstered by the Imagiq 1290 ISP and an upgraded Mali-G2 Ultra NX GPU. The Dimensity 9600M is designed to bring advanced AI features to a broader range of flagship devices. Built on the 3nm N3P process, it incorporates a new ‘Agentic AI Engine’ and a ‘Dimensity Scheduling Engine’ to optimize task management and generative AI capabilities. Like the Pro model, the 9600M supports high-end connectivity and hardware standards, including Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, and camera sensors up to 320MP.
