Various medical donation initiatives have been conducted in Greece to support patients with blood-related illnesses. On September 12, Olympiacos FC, in collaboration with Metaxa Hospital, held its annual voluntary blood donation drive at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium. The event was organized in memory of the victims of Gate 7 and aimed to support oncology patients at Metaxa Hospital. Following this, the General Hospital of Pyrgos and the General Hospital of Naoussa participated in the 5th annual nationwide bone marrow donation campaign. Organized with the Nurses Association of Greece, this initiative focused on registering new voluntary donors, particularly those aged 17 to 45, to assist patients suffering from hematological malignancies and other blood disorders. In the Thessaly and Western Macedonia regions, efforts to increase donor awareness continued. In Kalabaka, the Kalabaka Health Center conducted a voluntary action for the registration of new bone marrow donors as part of the ‘5th Panhellenic Voluntary Bone Marrow Action’ to mark World Bone Marrow Donor Day. This event was supported by the Nurses' Union of Greece and the ‘Vision of Hope’ association. Additionally, in Kozani, the Region of Western Macedonia scheduled a voluntary blood donation event for September 28 at the Kozani Regional Administration building. Organized with the Mamatsios General Hospital blood donation unit and the ‘Bridge of Life’ Blood Donor Volunteers Association, the event also allows individuals to register as bone marrow donors via saliva samples. Local authorities noted that participating employees are entitled to two days of special leave.
