Pedro Uczai, the Workers’ Party (PT) leader in the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies, suffered an ischemic stroke on August 11 during a meeting of the College of Leaders. The medical emergency caused Uczai to lose consciousness, leading to the immediate suspension of the Chamber’s plenary session and the postponement of legislative discussions, including a bill regarding federal fuel taxes. Following initial treatment at the Chamber’s Medical Department, Uczai was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Hospital DF Star in Brasília. Medical assessments identified the stroke as being located in the left cerebellum. By August 15, Uczai was moved out of the ICU. Medical reports indicate he is conscious, showing positive clinical evolution, and exhibiting no cognitive or motor impairments. He remained hospitalized for continued monitoring with a projected discharge for August 17. On August 18, Uczai was officially discharged from Hospital DF Star following significant health improvements. While the stroke affected the left cerebellum—an area responsible for balance and coordination—medical reports indicate he has shown satisfactory evolution with no signs of neurological, cognitive, or motor deficits. He is expected to continue his treatment and routine examinations at home. During the initial medical emergency, immediate assistance was provided by fellow lawmakers Hugo Motta and Jandira Feghali, both of whom are physicians.
