Romania is experiencing developments in surgical technology and medical digitalization. While the adoption of robotic surgery platforms, such as the Da Vinci system, currently lags behind European averages, medical professionals have noted the technological advantages of these systems, including 3D magnification and improved ergonomics for long procedures. Efforts to modernize the healthcare sector include specialized training workshops for young doctors in Hunedoara, focusing on live laparoscopic interventions for hernia and colorectal procedures. Additionally, in Brașov, a project supported by approximately 4 million euros in European funds is underway to implement an integrated e-Health digital platform. This initiative aims to transition hospital activities to an interoperable system by the end of December to improve patient-oriented care. Furthering the focus on advanced surgical techniques, the Romanian Robotic & Metabolic Surgery Days 2026 is scheduled for November 9-10 in Bucharest. Organized by the professional associations RAES and RSMS under the theme ‘Bringing Better Care to All,’ the conference will explore integrating innovations in robotic, metabolic, and minimally invasive surgery into clinical practice. The event will include an International Symposium of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery to address obesity management through multidisciplinary cooperation and emerging medications.
