Tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean have been marked by maritime friction between Israel and Turkey. Following reports of Turkish warships engaging in “provocative maneuvers” and attempting to obstruct Israeli maritime routes, the Israel Defense Forces increased military readiness. This period of confrontation has been further complicated by geopolitical disagreements regarding Syria and Gaza, including an Israeli strike on al-Duhur Airport in Syria. In a separate development aimed at bolstering regional maritime security, Israel and Greece have expanded their military cooperation. The two nations conducted a series of highly symbolic joint naval exercise involving exercises, which were initially held under strict secrecy.
