On October 25, 2026, the cruise ship Mein Schiff 3, operated by TUI Cruises, collided with two container ships, the MSC Victorine and the MSC Anna F., while departing the port of Bremerhaven, Germany. The incident occurred during stormy weather caused by Storm Manja, where a strong gust of wind reportedly impacted the vessel despite tugboat assistance. While no injuries were reported among the 2,428 passengers and 922 crew members, the collision caused significant damage. The MSC Victorine sustained a hull tear of approximately 10 metres, and the Mein Schiff 3 suffered damage to its hull, cranes, and lifeboats. Initial damage estimates are reported to be in the seven-figure range. Consequently, the ship’s scheduled 20-day voyage to the Canary Islands was canceled, and passengers are being issued refunds. Authorities have launched multiple investigations. The Bremen water police are conducting an administrative proceeding to determine if the captain, Jan F. Schubert, fulfilled all safety and duty of care obligations, and the Federal Bureau for Maritime Accident Investigation has also opened an inquiry. TUI Cruises has distanced itself from Captain Schubert, removing his name from its website. Repair plans are underway. The Mein Schiff 3 is scheduled expected to be moved move to the Lloyd Werft in Bremerhaven for repairs, repairs around November 1, which may involve replacing damaged hull sections, davits, and lifeboats. Experts suggest that manufacturing new lifeboats could take six to eight weeks, potentially keeping the vessel out of service for an extended period. The MSC Victorine is expected to undergo repairs directly at the quay.
