In late July 2026, a masked assailant identified as A. Y. carried out a series of assaults in Mersin Province, shooting a holiday‑site chairman, attacking an 11‑year‑old boy in a market and attempting to kill an 80‑year‑old man in his garden. Police reviewed extensive CCTV footage, arrested the suspect and charged him with attempted murder. On 4 August, village head Mehmet Polat of Çamlıyayla was again targeted. Three men blocked his vehicle, beat him with sticks and fists, and left him with a broken nose, rib injuries and facial bruises. Two of the attackers were arrested and detained pending further investigation. The incident reinforces the pattern of targeted violence in the region and has prompted continued police action and heightened security measures. Authorities remain focused on identifying any further threats and bringing those responsible to justice. No additional violent incidents linked to this pattern have been reported since the August 4 attack.
