Commemorative musical and cultural events have been organized in Mesolonghi and abroad to mark the 200th anniversary of the historic Exodus and Siege of Mesolonghi, pivotal moments in the Greek Revolution. On August 30, 2026, the Mesolonghi Open Theater hosted ‘Mesolonghi, all around you is Light’, featuring Sofia Manou, Thanasis Viskadourakis, and Natalia Dragoumi, with support from the Kanon Orchestra of the Holy Archdiocese of Athens. The production utilized texts by Dr. Ilios Liamis to provide historical and spiritual context. In Rome, a commemorative concert was held at the courtyard of the Holy Church of St. Theodore in the Roman Forum to honor Italian Philhellenism. Organized by the Greek Community of Rome and Lazio and the Greek Orthodox Church of St. Theodore, in cooperation with Greek Embassies to Rome and the Vatican, the event featured the Iosif Rogon Musical Club of Mesolonghi. The program included melodies such as ‘Eleftheroi Poliorgimenoi’ and original texts by Eleni Plakida, translated into Italian by Thodoris Andreadis-Syggelakis and Lina Nikolakopoulou. Scheduled The event was held under the auspices of the Metropolis of Italy, the Municipality of Mesolonghi, and the Region of Western Greece. Further commemorations are scheduled for September 26, 2026, composer 2026. Composer Stamatis Spanoudakis will lead a major concert at the Garden of Heroes. Supported by the Ministry of Culture, this event will feature Heroes, featuring the nationwide premiere of new compositions inspired by the siege, performed by the Melodoi choir, the Municipal Choir of Mesolonghi, and the Hieros Lochos Philharmonic, incorporating visual Philharmonic. Additionally, the Hierarchical Region of Amphilochia, under the Holy Metropolis of Aetolia and audiovisual elements. Acarnania, will hold religious services in Amvrakia and a memorial service in Amphilochia. Researcher Nikolaos Telonas is scheduled to speak regarding the participation of the people of Valtos during the siege and the historic exodus.
