Meta has introduced new AI-driven features and updated its platform policies to address evolving technology and user concerns. The company launched ‘Your Algorithm’ on Facebook, a tool utilizing generative artificial intelligence and large language models to allow users to personalize their feeds through natural language instructions rather than passive data tracking. This feature enables real-time adjustments to recommendations, allowing users to request more or less of specific topics or mark content as ‘Interested’ or ‘Not interested’ directly from posts. In response to criticisms regarding data usage and the rise of AI-generated content, Meta modified its terms of use for Facebook and Instagram. The revised terms clarify that automated software may collect content for advertising, business products, security, and integrity, while notably removing the word ‘train’ to address concerns about using content for AI development without compensation. Additionally, Instagram leadership has addressed the emergence of ‘slop content’ and deepfakes, stating that while the company will not ban AI content entirely, it is investigating methods to manage accounts that use AI to mimic the styles of original creators. Meta is further expanding these capabilities through testing an AI assistant within its ‘Edits’ video editing application on Instagram in the United States. This assistant provides strategic advice by analyzing creator data, such as audience demographics and post performance, to suggest Reels concepts, hooks, scripts, and music.
