ATLUS and SEGA are preparing for the November 12, 2026, release of the fantasy role-playing game Metaphor: ReFantazio on the Nintendo Switch 2. Following the game’s initial success on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC—where it won multiple awards including Best RPG at The Game Awards 2024 and became ATLUS’s fastest-selling title—ATLUS opened pre-orders in early September. This period included the release of character trailers, such as one focused on the fairy companion Gallica. In early October, ATLUS and Studio Zero announced ‘The Art of Metaphor: ReFantazio’, an art book featuring Shigenori Soejima, tentatively scheduled for March 9, 2027. On October 12, 2026, ATLUS released a free prologue demo for the Nintendo Switch 2. The demo allows players to explore the United Kingdom of Euchronia, experience the first four dungeons, meet six supporting characters, and use seven of the game’s more than 40 Archetypes. Progress from the demo can be transferred to the full version. On October 18, 2026, technical analysis by Digital Foundry regarding the Switch 2 demo reported mixed results. While the game appears to utilize TAA-based upscaling, likely DLSS, testers observed a potential bug where the game presents a 2560x720 resolution when docked. This results in a “jagged vertical pattern that resembles interlacing,” and it remains unclear if this issue will be addressed before the final launch. Performance also showed inconsistency; docked frame rates fluctuate between 30 and 60 FPS, while handheld mode reduces internal resolution to approximately 960 x 540 pixels with lowered shadow quality and draw distance.
