A legislative initiative has been introduced in Mexico to reform Article 87 of the Federal Labor Law regarding the annual Christmas bonus, or aguinaldo. Proposed by Deputy Eduardo Gaona DomÃnguez, DomÃnguez of Movimiento Ciudadano, the reform seeks to transition the current 15-day salary bonus to a progressive scale based on worker seniority. The initiative has been referred to the Labor and Social Welfare Commission. Under this plan, the proposed scale, workers with eight or more years less than one year of service would receive 30 days of salary, a proportional amount, while those with one to two years would maintain the current 15 days. The plan suggests 20 days for three to four years of service, 25 days for five to seven years, and up to 30 days of salary for employees with eight or more years of service. The proposal aims to address inflation and the rising cost of living, requiring living by strengthening labor rights.
