Local governments in Mexico have launched various health initiatives aimed at the early detection of breast and cervical cancer. In Villa de Álvarez, the Municipal DIF organized a mammography campaign at the Colima Diagnostic Clinic to serve women in both urban and rural areas. Mayor Tey Gutiérrez Andrade promoted the program as a preventative measure, with the initiative set to run until December or until 200 beneficiaries are reached. Other municipalities have implemented similar programs. In Tulancingo, Hidalgo, health authorities scheduled free mammograms for women aged 40 to 69 following an initial session in mid-October. Meanwhile, in Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila, the “Tócate sin miedo y cuídate con amor” campaign concluded October with 360 preventive studies, including 210 mammograms and 150 cervical cytology tests, targeting communities with limited medical access. Expanding these efforts, the state of Coahuila has allocated over 15 million pesos for 2026 to strengthen prevention services through the “Revísate a Tiempo” program. This initiative operates year-round across 38 municipalities and has provided care to more than 8,000 women this year. Recent developments in Coahuila include the delivery of a mammography machine to the Hospital General in Monclova, the launch of a colposcopy clinic for the Centro-Desierto region, and the distribution of specialized equipment to hospitals in Benavides and Guadalupe. Additional regional activities include a campaign in Culiacán, Sinaloa, offering mammographies, Pap smears, and ultrasounds, as well as an awareness-raising athletic race in Ciudad Madero, Tamaulipas, organized by Woodside Energy and the Secretariat of Energy. Recent reports indicate that Los Cabos is providing free breast examinations in Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo, while the “En el Vientre Materno” program in Meoqui is supporting pregnant women.
