Municipalities in Mexico have initiated procedures for 2027 participatory budgeting. In Juárez, the local government established spending caps for citizen-led projects at 7 million pesos and public school projects at 4 million pesos. The municipality is seeking proposals for infrastructure, health, and security, with a total allocation of 423 million pesos planned for voting in February. The call for proposals is open from September 28 until October 30, with viability assessments scheduled for announcement on November 17. In Cancún, the Benito Juárez City Council has launched the registration process for its 100 million peso participatory budget, covering 10 urban zones. Registration is open from October 19 until November 13, 2026, for residents with valid voter IDs. To support this, the municipal government is hosting co-creation workshops to assist residents in developing specific project proposals. Following registration, proposals will undergo technical, financial, and legal feasibility validation before a digital voting phase scheduled for late 2026 and early 2027. These workshops, organized by the Municipal Secretariat of Welfare, will run itinerantly through November 13. Additionally, the Municipal Institute of Urban Planning (IMPLAN) in Cancún has presented the ‘15-Minute Cancún Diagnosis’ study. This report analyzes 264 supermanzanas to evaluate access to essential services like schools, health centers, and workplaces, aiming to guide the new Municipal Urban Development Program. In Chihuahua, the municipal government has concluded promotional forums involving 320 proponents to prepare for citizen consultations scheduled for November 28 and 29. These projects focus on public services, security, education, sports, and the recovery of public spaces.
