Regional electoral institutes across Mexico continue to manage diverse administrative, legislative, and consultative processes. In Michoacán, following the ~~Electoral Institute (IEM) installed~~ installation of a new General ~~Council.~~ Council by the Electoral Institute (IEM), Deputy Antonio Carreño Sosa has called for the urgent establishment of a Governance Table. Although the process began two weeks ago, the table—intended to coordinate security, polling station viability, and challenges in self-governing zones—remains uninstalled. Carreño Sosa warned that delays in communication between electoral bodies, the Executive Power, and political parties could prevent the identification of issues that might disrupt elections, citing the political violence and candidate deaths seen during the 2024 local elections. In Sinaloa, the IEES completed consultative stages for indigenous self-identification and affirmative actions for the 2026-2027 elections. Recent developments include the unanimous approval in Puebla of registration retention for three local political parties. In Chihuahua, the IEE moved two citizen-led initiatives—one regarding animal cruelty reforms and another concerning the direct election of councilors—to the support-gathering stage. In Oaxaca, the IEEPCO validated extraordinary elections in municipalities governed by Indigenous Normative Systems. In Guanajuato, the IEEG approved affirmative actions for municipal presidencies in 13 municipalities, a move facing criticism, while Coahuila’s IEC remains unable to appoint a head for its Technical Unit for Parity and Inclusion due to internal disagreements. In Tabasco, Executive Secretary Jorge Alberto Zavala Frías resigned following controversy over a promotional video for a Morena mayoral candidate; counselors cited violations of “impartiality, independence, and objectivity.” The IEPCT is now preparing to approve the 2026-2027 electoral calendar. In Jalisco, the IEPC presidency has been vacant since July 1 following the resignation of Paula Ramírez Höhne. The National Electoral Institute (INE) has identified 19 “idóneas” (suitable) candidates to fill the role. Additionally, Morena Jalisco filed a complaint against Guadalajara Mayor Verónica Delgadillo García and Governor Pablo Lemus Navarro, alleging premature campaigning and misuse of public resources. In the State of Mexico, the IEEM is preparing for 2027 by planning to recycle over 50% of electoral materials and establishing new protection protocols to address security concerns following 32 recorded incidents of violence against candidates during the 2024 cycle.
