The CRT’s CURP-linking programme is entering its final phase. By mid-August 2026, approximately 71 million lines have been successfully linked. The first phase of the staggered suspension schedule began on 15 August, targeting mobile numbers ending in 0. The CRT has stated that “there will be no extension” for this initial group, and service for non-compliant lines was scheduled for suspension within 72 hours of the deadline. Following the August 15 deadline for lines ending in 0, the CRT reported that 9,675,589 lines (78.9% of that block) were successfully linked, while approximately 2.6 million lines remain suspended. However, authorities noted that 2,353,453 previously suspended lines have already been reactivated through successful registration. As the rollout continues, the deadline for users with numbers ending in 1 is August 31, 2026. As of August 29, national registration progress reached 64%, leaving more than one-third of the country’s lines unregistered. Users can reactivate suspended service by providing a valid ID, CURP, and completing a facial recognition “life test” through their provider. In response to the mandate, political parties including Acción Nacional (PAN) and Movimiento Ciudadano are assisting citizens in filing legal injunctions, known as amparos. Movimiento Ciudadano deputy Francisco Sánchez Villegas announced that injunctions have been obtained to protect users with numbers ending in 0 or 1, preventing service cancellations. Sánchez Villegas characterized the requirements as the ‘Spy Law’ (Ley Espía), arguing that the threat of suspension pressures citizens into surrendering personal data.
