In early July, Mexico’s National Commission for Aquaculture and Fisheries (Conapesca) announced coordinated inter‑agency operations aimed at curbing shrimp smuggling. By the end of July, the agency detailed the outcomes of those efforts for June 2026, reporting the seizure of 462,550 kg of illegal fish products across 19 states, alongside fishing gear, vehicles, boats and engines. The June operation involved hundreds of 236 inspections, 1,137 verifications, 1,216 land patrols and 236 water patrols, and resulted resulting in three arrests, the confiscation of 1,436 gear items, 24 vehicles, 17 small vessels and nine outboard motors. Three individuals were arrested and handed to the Public Ministry for violations of the General Law on Sustainable Aquaculture and Fisheries. Conapesca highlighted its 24‑hour hotline (669 915 6913) and an online platform for citizen reports, underscoring an intensified crackdown on illegal fishing to protect marine resources and enforce the Sustainable Fisheries Law.
