Mexican authorities continue to implement social and educational programs to reduce dropout rates and increase student retention. Previous efforts included the ‘Jalo a Estudiar, Jalo por la Paz’ program in Michoacán, which distributed 800,000 pairs of school shoes, and scholarship distributions in Tijuana. Recent data from President Claudia Sheinbaum indicates that high school enrollment increased by 400,000 students in 2026 compared to the previous year. The administration attributed this growth to increased information campaigns, scholarship programs, and the construction of new high schools located closer to students' homes. The government intends to expand the ‘Becas para el Bienestar’ program to cover 22 million students across all educational levels this year. Currently, approximately 19.59 million students receive welfare scholarship support, with an annual social investment exceeding 136,902 million pesos. As of October 2026, disbursements for several scholarship programs—including Benito Juárez, Gertrudis Bocanegra, and Jóvenes Escribiendo el Futuro—were scheduled to begin on October 19. Additionally, the registration period for the Prepa en Línea-SEP program was set for October 19 through October 28. To support these goals, the Secretariat of Public Education (SEP) is emphasizing flexible learning modalities. The Prepa en Línea-SEP program offers free online studies, while the Bachillerato Nacional Margarita Maza operates through 186 physical campuses. Secretary of Public Education Mario Delgado confirmed that students under 25 enrolled in the online system are eligible for the Universal Benito Juárez Scholarship, which provides 1,900 pesos every two months. Regional expansions continue, such as in Sinaloa, where the Secretariat of Public Education and Culture is utilizing alternative sites in Mazatlán, including Pradera Dorada and Arturo Cundapí Secondary School, to offer afternoon shifts.
