The Mexican Secretariat of Science, Humanities, Technology and Innovation (Secihti), in coordination with Nacional Financiera (Nafin), has launched a call for private investment to support the Olinia project. The initiative aims to raise 950 million pesos to develop, manufacture, and commercialize a line of electric vehicles designed by Mexican researchers, specifically targeting micro-mobility and last-mile transport for urban and semi-urban environments. The project includes three models: a passenger vehicle (Olinia 1), a cargo version with 650 kg capacity, and an Olinia Van. The initiative aims to manufacture up to 50,000 electric vehicles annually, targeting segments currently dominated by brands such as Italika, including replacements for mototaxis and short-range cargo vehicles. To ensure Mexican capital maintains a majority, the investment structure dictates that the federal government will hold a minority stake of at least 33.33% but no more than 50%, while foreign companies' combined stake cannot exceed 33%. Private investment is expected to range between 500 and 745 million pesos, with a minimum investment requirement of 200 million pesos per participant or consortium. The government's contribution includes cash, in-kind assets, and intellectual property. The selection call for investment also seeks partners capable of developing commercial networks, financing alternatives, and after-sales services. The registration process for investors is scheduled to conclude run from October 14 to November 3, 2026, with the final selection process concluding by January 29, 2027.
