Mexico‑Taiwan AI Server Supply Chain
Entities: Taiwan · Mexico · Microsoft Corp. · European Union · United States
Overview
In early 2026 Mexico emerged as a pivotal source of enterprise servers for U.S. AI infrastructure, supplying roughly 40 % of the United States' AI‑focused server imports. Taiwanese manufacturers—including Foxconn, Flex, Jabil and Sanmina—have invested more than US$1.6 billion in Mexican assembly plants since 2020, creating a near‑shoring hub that shortens the supply chain to U.S. hyperscale data centers.
The surge in server exports boosted Mexico’s trade figures, with US$46.9 billion in enterprise server shipments between January and May, accounting for almost one‑fifth of its total export value and more than double the previous year’s level. Analysts note that this growing dependency heightens exposure to tariff and trade‑policy risks, while also contributing to heightened volatility in technology markets.
Concurrently, the EU AI Act, which took effect on 2 August, introduced labeling requirements for AI‑generated content and substantial fines for non‑compliance, prompting immediate adjustments among European firms, including Czech companies, that rely on AI for customer service and marketing.
