MG Motor has expanded its electric vehicle presence in Southeast Asia through new model launches in Malaysia and the Philippines. In Malaysia, SAIC Motor Malaysia introduced the entry-level MGS5 EV COM variant, a locally assembled (CKD) B-segment SUV produced at the EPMB plant in Melaka. Priced at RM103,900, the model features a 49kWh battery with a range of up to 340km and 120kW DC fast charging capability. Following this, In the Philippines, MG Motor Philippines debuted launched the 2027 MG S5 EV compact SUV. This SUV as part of its ‘Multiply Greatness Tour 2026’. The vehicle made its debut at the Trinoma Activity Center and is part of a nationwide roadshow scheduled to visit locations such as Pampanga, Laguna, and Cebu. The S5 EV is a rear-wheel-drive model powered by a permanent-magnet synchronous motor producing approximately 168hp to 170ps and 250Nm of torque. It is equipped with a 49kWh lithium iron phosphate battery offering a 415km NEDC range and supports 120kW DC fast charging. charging, which can charge the battery from 10% to 90% in about 24 minutes. Technical features include five selectable driving modes, regenerative braking, One-Pedal Drive, and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability. The vehicle is priced at P 1,448,888.
