Miami Hurricanes and North Carolina football matchup

The No. 1 ranked Miami Hurricanes, led by head coach Mario Cristobal, are scheduled to face the North Carolina Tar Heels at Kenan Stadium on October 31, 2026.

Miami enters the contest with a 7-0 overall record and a 5-0 record in ACC standings. The team has demonstrated strong offensive performance, scoring over 40 points in four consecutive games, with quarterback Darian Mensah recording 2,151 passing yards and 22 touchdowns. Miami currently leads the nation in scoring with 49.0 points per game and total offense with 551.9 yards per game. Wide receiver Malachi Toney is also noted as a Heisman Trophy candidate alongside Mensah.

North Carolina holds a 4-3 record and enters the matchup following a 31-30 overtime loss to Syracuse. Led by head coach Bill Belichick, the Tar Heels rely on a defense featuring leading tacklers Derek McDonald and Peyton Seelmann. McDonald has previously been named a semifinalist for the Butkus Award. To secure an upset, North Carolina must contain Miami’s passing attack and utilize quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. and the team’s rushing game.

This primetime Halloween matchup serves as a significant test for the Tar Heels, who have historically struggled against top-ranked opponents, holding an 0-11 all-time record against No. 1 teams. North Carolina's defense has allowed 22.5 points in regulation per game this season, while their offense is led by Billy Edwards Jr., who has recorded 1,531 passing yards and 11 touchdowns.
