The No. 1 ranked Miami Hurricanes began their 2026 season with a dominant 45-6 win over Stanford, featuring 401 passing yards and five touchdowns from quarterback Darian Mensah and a school-record 234 receiving yards from Malachi Toney. Miami followed this with a 77-7 victory over Florida A&M, setting a school record with 856 total yards of offense. In their ACC opener, Miami defeated Wake Forest 33-20 to move to 3-0. While Mensah set an ACC record with 24 consecutive completions to start the game, the offense experienced a significant second-half lull, and Toney left the game with a potential injury. Following a 41-13 win over Clemson on October 3, which moved Miami to 5-0 and sole possession of first place in the ACC, the team entered a bye week. After a recent double-overtime victory against Florida State, the Hurricanes have maintained the No. 1 spot in the AP Top 25. Despite this, offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson has noted execution lapses, stating the team ‘left a lot out there’ during recent play. While Toney was named the Paul Hornung Award National Player of the Week, Dawson emphasized that the offense cannot be a ‘one-man show’. Although Miami holds the top human ranking, the ESPN College Football Power Index recently projected Ohio State as the top team, placing Miami at No. 4. Prior to their Clemson matchup, Miami faced Central Michigan, securing a 52-3 victory to reach a 4-0 record. Darian Mensah threw for 338 yards and three touchdowns, while reserve running back Chris Wheatley-Humphrey recorded 104 rushing yards. The team entered their Week 8 matchup against Pittsburgh with a 6-0 record, looking to regain offensive rhythm following the Florida State game.
