Following a difficult tenure with the Colorado Rockies, where he posted a 7.08 ERA and a 3-11 record, veteran right-handed pitcher Michael Lorenzen was designated for assignment in mid-August. Shortly after his release from Colorado, the Toronto Blue Jays signed the 34-year-old to a one-year contract to address pitching depth issues caused by injuries to several starters. Blue Jays manager John Schneider noted that Lorenzen offers “availability for length and availability to do a lot of different things,” and expects him to serve in the bullpen immediately.
