Microchip PolarFire FPGA Ethernet Sensor Bridge release
Overview
Microchip Technology has announced the release of its second-generation PolarFire FPGA Ethernet Sensor Bridge (Revision 2.0). This production-ready platform is designed to simplify sensor connectivity for edge AI applications, including humanoid robotics, medical AI, and industrial automation.
The new hardware is 60% smaller than the previous version and supports up to four cameras, doubling the capacity of its predecessor. Utilizing NVIDIA Holoscan Sensor Bridge technology, the board employs a 10Gb Ethernet-based system to replace complex, multi-interface connections, which aims to reduce system costs and bill-of-materials complexity.
Technical features include USB-C power support and on-board optical latency measurement circuitry to enable end-to-end latency validation from sensor capture to AI inference. The design also includes an FPGA Mezzanine Card (FMC) expansion connector to support various interfaces such as MIPI CSI-2, I2C, UART, GPIO, 12G-SDI, HDMI, and DisplayPort.
