The Midea PortaSplit mobile split-system air conditioner initially experienced high consumer demand and frequent stock shortages in retail stores. Its popularity was attributed to its A++ cooling efficiency, quiet operation, and ease of installation for renters compared to traditional systems. Due to high demand, some retailers have been known to charge prices above the suggested retail price of 1,199 euros. Following this period of high demand, the device has encountered regulatory and security challenges. New European Union regulations regarding refrigerants that contribute to the greenhouse effect are impacting sales and future manufacturing requirements.
