In early October 2026, humanitarian vessels continued to deliver rescued migrants to Italian ports. On October 6, the NGO vessel Oyvon arrived in Reggio Calabria with 27 migrants, including 25 men, two women, and seven unaccompanied foreign minors. The group originated from Ethiopia, Eritrea, Senegal, and Mali. Following arrival, individuals underwent health and administrative checks for transfer to reception centers. On October 10, the German-flagged vessel Solidaire arrived in Salerno with 14 migrants rescued near the Libyan coast. This group, consisting of individuals from Somalia and South Sudan, included seven minors. One individual had been previously disembarked in Mazara del Vallo, Sicily, for medical assistance regarding asthma. The disembarkation in Salerno was conducted despite an orange weather alert and heavy rain, involving local authorities, law enforcement, and organizations such as the Italian Red Cross. On October 31, the Oyvon, a search and rescue vessel operated by Medici Senza Frontiere (MSF), arrived at the port of Reggio Calabria with 33 migrants. This group, consisting of 25 men, 3 women, 3 accompanied minors, and 2 unaccompanied minors, originated from Sudan, Nigeria, Somalia, Eritrea, and Niger. Upon arrival, migrants were met by law enforcement, mediators, and Caritas volunteers. They were processed at an emergency hotspot managed by the Red Cross on the port's western pier, coordinated by the Reggio prefecture. This arrival marked the third instance of migrants arriving in Reggio Calabria during October.
