Following the migration crisis in Ceuta in late July and the subsequent judicial investigation launched by Judge María Tardón, social and political unrest has continued to expand across Spain. On September 26, significant demonstrations took place in Madrid and Ceuta. In Madrid, the group Sociedad Civil Española organized the ‘II Marcha por la Dignidad’ (Second March for Dignity). Supported by nearly 200 entities and prominent political leaders from the PP and Vox parties, the march moved from Plaza de Cibeles through Gran Vía to Moncloa. The Government Delegation estimated a turnout of approximately 20,000 people. Participants demanded the immediate calling of general elections and protested the government’s management of the migration crisis in Ceuta. Specifically, protesters called for the dissolution of the current parliament and demanded that President Pedro Sánchez convene elections no later than November 15. During the event, Vox president Santiago Abascal alleged the government’s actions serve Moroccan interests, while PP Secretary General Miguel Tellado demanded the return of migrants who entered the city irregularly. Some participants also called for the prosecution of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez for treason. In Ceuta, local residents held a peaceful protest known as the ‘mini-Trampolín’ to voice discontent with the government’s handling of the migration situation. The President of Ceuta, Juan Vivas, visited the protesters to offer support and emphasize the community’s resolve to defend its territory. Simultaneously, opposing demonstrations were scheduled in Santander, with one group, Pasaje Seguro, organizing in favor of migrants and another, the Asociación Alfonso I Cantabria, organizing against migration.
