Construction of the Fiera Ice Arena in Milan’s Fieramilano Rho district progressed through September 2026, with key structural elements and suspended systems completed. The 4,000-seat facility, funded by a 7 million euro investment from Fondazione Fiera Milano, was scheduled to become operational by October to accommodate the Milano Hockey Club. On October 7, 2026, the Fiera Ice Arena officially opened as a multi-functional venue for hockey, curling, figure skating, short track, and para ice hockey. The facility has received Fisg-Coni certification for seven different ice sports. Giovanni Bozzetti, president of Fondazione Fiera Milano, described the arena as the “unique true legacy of the Olympics” regarding sports infrastructure for the city. The venue is set to host the Milano Hockey Club’s home debut, starting with a match against Hockey Club Innsbruck in the Ice Hockey League, followed by an Italian derby against Hockey Club Bolzano. This opening marks the return of professional hockey to Milan after several years. Developed as part of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics legacy, the project involved collaboration between Fondazione Fiera Milano, the Lombardy Region, and the municipalities of Milan and Rho. Alongside the arena opening, redevelopment efforts began for the historic Agorà ice rink in the Lorenteggio district. Following its 2023 closure, the company Ice Friends proposed a 5 million euro renovation to upgrade athlete and spectator spaces and improve energy efficiency via a 500 kW photovoltaic system. The municipal government has declared this redevelopment a project of public interest.
