Following the initial incident, Benfield was jailed without bond in Carter County after being arrested in Avery County, North Carolina, for violating his bond supervision. He allegedly failed a random drug screen that showed the presence of THC and alcohol, violating conditions that prohibited driving and the use of alcohol or illegal drugs. Benfield waived extradition and was returned to the Carter County Detention Center.
