Milorad Dodik, his son Igor Dodik, and several associates filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida against the U.S. Department of the Treasury, the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), and other high-ranking officials. The plaintiffs challenged the legality of previous U.S. sanctions, arguing that the decisions lacked proper procedures and questioning the validity of documents that utilized electronic signatures rather than the President’s personal signature. Although the sanctions were lifted in October 2025, the legal challenge continued as the U.S. government filed a motion to dismiss. Following a court-granted extension, the plaintiffs filed an amended lawsuit. This updated action, which includes the Cypriot company SEE Media Research Ltd., seeks to have the previous sanctions declared illegal and requests the complete removal of the plaintiffs' names from official and commercial financial databases. The plaintiffs argue they continue to suffer “significant financial harm,” such as blocked assets and the refusal of international banks to restore business relationships due to being flagged in private databases. The amended suit also seeks nominal damages of 1 dollar per individual plaintiff for alleged violations of constitutional rights. A central argument in the amended filing involves the ‘Autopen’ affair, with the legal team claiming the sanctions are invalid because they were allegedly signed by aides using a mechanical signature device rather than by the President personally. The proceedings are currently awaiting a response from the U.S. government, with a key court date set for September 8, 2026, when Judge Jeffrey Kuntz will consider the administration's request to dismiss the case.
