Overview

Chilean operators are responding: Minera Collahuasi reports a 40 % reduction in fresh‑water use through recycling, yet its activities still affect soil infiltration and agriculture. Codelco, the world’s largest copper producer, draws over one billion cubic metres of water annually, representing more than a quarter of global copper output, highlighting the scale of water demand in the sector.
