On July 27, 2024 the Twins signed right‑hander Joe Ryan to a one‑year, $6.2 million contract with a $13 million mutual option for 2025, keeping him as the trade deadline approached while the club chased the AL wild‑card. A week later, after three poor starts, Ryan was sent home for a medical evaluation; staff noted lower‑body issues affecting his back and glutes and a drop in fastball velocity, leaving his next start uncertain as the Twins remained one game behind Cleveland. Two years later, on July 27, 2026 the Twins again announced they would not trade Ryan, reiterating the same contract terms and saying his start was delayed because of general arm fatigue.
