Venezuela earthquake recovery and ~~ongoing~~ seismic ~~activity~~ stabilization

One hundred days after the June 24 twin earthquakes (magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5), Venezuela continues to manage a massive humanitarian crisis. The death toll stands at over 6,500, with approximately 17,000 injuries and nearly 7 million people affected. In La Guaira, 18,000 individuals remain without shelter, and survivors are increasingly demanding updated official data. Reconstruction and safety efforts persist, though survivors report a lack of clear information regarding seismic studies or future construction plans. To ensure public safety, authorities have conducted controlled demolitions of 12 unsafe structures, including the Residencias Medusa in Tanaguarena. While officials report that approximately 50% of debris has been cleared from affected zones, the community continues to grapple with the loss of local commerce and housing. Seismic instability remains a significant concern. Funvisis has recorded over 2,152 aftershocks since the initial ~~disaster, with recent~~ disaster. As of October 2026, the Venezuelan government and the National Service of Forensic Medicine and Sciences (Senamecf) have issued an urgent call for families to assist in identifying 22 individuals using necrodactylia, dentistry, and anthropology. These remains are currently held at the La Esperanza Cemetery in La Guaira. While official government figures report 6,509 fatalities and the destruction of over 25,000 homes, civil society organizations report a significantly higher number of missing persons, with over 29,000 reports of individuals whose whereabouts remain unknown. ~~Funvisis has now recorded 2,185 aftershocks in the region.~~
