The Miss Universe brand has faced multiple controversies in Vietnam involving both international hosting claims and local contestant conduct. The Miss Universe Organization (MUO) issued a formal denial regarding reports that Vietnam would host the 76th Miss Universe competition in 2027. The MUO stated that unauthorized individuals had taken over its official website and social media accounts to spread false information. The organization clarified that ‘MU East’ is not an authorized representative and that the official host for 2027 will be announced following the 75th competition in Puerto Rico. Separately, the Miss Universe Vietnam 2026 organizing committee launched an investigation into leaked social media messages. The controversy involves screenshots of chat group conversations allegedly featuring the newly crowned Miss Universe Vietnam, Nguyen Quynh Anh, and runner-up Trinh My Anh, containing negative remarks about colleagues and industry figures, including Hoa hau Ky Duyen. Both titleholders have now issued public apologies. Trinh My Anh admitted to making “inconsiderate remarks” and expressed regret for the potential hurt caused. Nguyen Quynh Anh stated she would be more cautious with her words and behavior, acknowledging that her title requires greater responsibility. The organizing committee continues to work with FIVE6 Entertainment to verify the authenticity of the communications and determine appropriate disciplinary actions. During a recent media tour, both winners directly apologized to runner-up Trinh Hong Dang for perceived insults. Observers described the interaction as “awkward and forced.” Trinh Hong Dang addressed the controversy by clarifying that she never used the term “hấp hối” (dying/critical condition) to describe a friend’s passing, as suggested by the leaked messages, noting that the misinformation caused her significant distress.
