Authorities in Greece launched search and rescue operations for Ami Jogev, a 46-year-old Israeli hiker from Modiin who went missing on Mount Olympus. Jogev was last in contact with his family on September 20, after being seen at the Kakalos plateau. While his rental car was located in Litochoro, his whereabouts remained unknown, prompting the Israeli Embassy in Athens to alert Greek police. Search efforts utilized firefighters and drones to scan the difficult terrain. On October 9, a private Israeli search group, Chaverim Mechaltzim, located Jogev’s body in the Mavrolakkos ravine at an altitude of approximately 1,800 meters, ending a three-week search operation. Jogev had last communicated with his mother by providing photographs of his progress before losing contact. Following the discovery, specialized mountain rescue teams from the Greek Fire Service’s 2nd and 8th EM.A.K. units and the Litochoro Fire Service initiated operations to recover his remains from the rugged, difficult-to-access terrain. The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been monitoring the case. While the exact circumstances of his death remain under investigation, initial reports suggest he may have fallen from a height during his climb.
